Maintain Your HVAC System Right: Tips for Homeowners

Posted By on May 20, 2015

Your HVAC system keeps you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. No matter where you live, chances are you really need your heat or your air conditioning. Some areas require you to have both working properly pretty much year round.

However, maintaining your HVAC system isn’t always something you can do on your own unless you happen to be a mechanical engineer. While there are things you can do alone, others require help. Use this guide to help you understand more about basic HVAC maintenance.

1. Clean your HVAC system regularly. This is generally something most homeowners can do, though it does require removing the compressor cover outside to clean coils and make sure no debris has fallen inside the unit.

2. Replace your air filter as suggested by the manufacturer. This is definitely something any homeowner can do, you just need to keep track of when it’s time to make the change. Put it on your calendar or mark it down on a pad near the air filter.

3. Get an HVAC service plan with a local and reputable provider. You may not need to get HVAC service now, but when you need help, it will likely be in the hot summer months when your HVAC overloads, or in the winter when it freezes up.

These aren’t times you want to be without HVAC use, and getting a regular service plan can help prevent that from happening to you.
